The town of Samaipata ("altitude rest" in Quechua) is located 120 km west of Santa Cruz, in a sub-Andean environment (1650 m alt.).
The Inca archaeological site known as "El Fuerte" was the most advanced outpost of the Inca Empire and marked its borders in the lowlands until its fall.
It represented the administrative centre of the empire, responsible for ensuring compliance with the Inca's orders in the region. Its main function, however, was to contain the frequent attempts of incursion by the Guarani Indians.
This impregnable bastion offers us, among other things, curiosities such as the largest carved stone in the world.
Amboró Park
This 637,000 hectare nature reserve is located in an area that ranges from 280 to 3,200 metres above sea level. Its plains are filled with abundant flora and a very varied fauna. It has, among others, 820 classified species of birds and also has mammals such as the Andean bear, the jaguar, the puma and various species of monkeys, many of them unique in the world.
Russet
The small town of Bermejo, 45 km from Samaipata, is the gateway to the Serranía, where volcanoes and volcanic lagoons await us. Magnificent sub-Andean landscapes.
Caves waterfalls
20 km from Samaipata, in the middle of landscapes similar to those in the film “The Mission”, you will find the Cascadas de Cuevas, one of the best-known attractions in the region. A natural beauty that is well worth the detour.
