A 4X4 excursion around the great salt desert intended for lovers of large spaces and Andean heights. The circuit includes a second day dedicated to a walking excursion on the flanks of the Tunupa volcano, on the edges of the Uyuni salt flat.
Day 1: UYUNI – SALAR – JIRIRA
Departure from the hotel at 09:00 for the Salar de Uyuni (3650 m above sea level), the largest salt desert in the world. On the way, visit the Colchani salt mine and the salt hotels (closed since November 2001). We stop in the heart of the salt flat, on Incahuasi Island. Of volcanic origin and covered with stromalites and giant cacti, this site is also known as Fish Island. In the afternoon, we cross the salt flat to its northern end, at the foot of the Tunupa volcano.
Cold lunch at midday. All inclusive. Night in the Aymara village of Jirira (limited comfort).
Day 2: ASCENT OF TUNUPA (5400 m Alt.) – UYUNI
Accompanied ascent – no technical difficulties – good physical condition.
Depart early in the morning in an attempt to reach the summit of this volcano that dominates the entire salt flat. An already exceptional view from the viewpoint (4700 m Alt.) that we reached in 3 to 4 hours. The pre-summit can be planned in 7 to 8 hours round trip but the ascent becomes more difficult after the viewpoint (rock bars) and may require specific material (ropes / crampons / ice axes) if the summit is snowy. The decision to attempt the summit until the pre-summit returns to the decision of the participants who accept the risks.
In the afternoon, return to the town of Jirira at the end of the afternoon and then to Uyuni.

In case of unavailability, hotels of the same category will be proposed. Please note that, for identical categories, the quality of hotels in Bolivia is often lower than that found in Europe or other countries.
IMPORTANT: As a security measure, each traveler will carry photocopies of their passport and individual insurance (to be delivered to us in La Paz upon arrival).
