A jeep expedition to the great desert of salt. Designed for lovers of open spaces and the Andean heights. The circuit includes a day dedicated to a breathtaking walk in the foothills of the volcano Tunupa, on the border of the Uyuni Salt Flat.
Day 1: UYUNI – SALT FLATS – JIRIRA
Departure from hotel at 09:00 in private 4WD to the Uyuni Salt Flats (3650 m.a.s.l.), the biggest in the world. Along the road, visit the salt mines of Colchani and the salt hotel (it has been closed since November 2001). We stop in the heart of the salt flats on Incahuasi Island (House of the Inca in Quechua). This place, covered by volcanic rock, is also known as the Isla del Pescado (Fish Island). In the afternoon, we will cross the salt flats to its northernmost edge at the foot of the Tunupa volcano.
Lunch. All included. Lodging at the house of the village of Jirira.
Day 2: JIRIRA – PARTIAL ASCENT OF TUNUPA (4700 m.a.s.l.) – UYUNI
With mountain guide – without technical difficulties – good physical condition is required
Early in the morning we begin our ascent to the “mirador” of the Tunupa that dominates all the salt flats. We will have an exceptional view from the Mirador (4700 m.a.s.l.) that we can reach in 3 hours. The ascent to the summit (5700 m.a.s.l.) is too dangerous and not recommended.
Return to Jirira by the end of the afternoon and, later on to the “wild west” village of Uyuni.
Lunch (included). Dinner Free. Hotel in Uyuni.
