The Sajama National Park, located on the border with Chile, is one of the most spectacular places to visit in this country. There, we can find not only impressive volcanoes but also hot springs, spectacular landscapes, legends and traditions still alive. From La Paz, we will go into the Altiplano crossing the lands of the Urus where we will discover the tombs of the Chipayas (chullpas). Later on, we will arrive to the Aymara town of Sajama, base camp for the ascent of Parinacota. The prize for our efforts: the hot springs, comforting to both body and soul.
Day 1 : LA PAZ - SAJAMA - PARINACOTA'S BASE CAMP
Departure from La Paz in the morning. We cross the Altiplano before arriving to the entrance of the Sajama National Park (approximately 4h). Along the way we will see the Chipaya tombs (chullpas). Then, we will go into the park through the village of Sajama and, later on, to the sources of hot springs located at the foot of the Sajama volcano. Then, in private jeep, we will reach the base camp at Parinacota.
Lunch. Camping. All included.
Day 2 : ASCENT OF PARINACOTA (6340 m.a.s.l.)
Grade II/AD, Max 50° - with mountain guide
Equipment check. Tentative ascent of Parinacota and, later on, return to the base camp.
Ascent without rope and, without technical difficulties. Use of crampons or ice-axe according to the snow conditions. By the end of the day, return to the village of Sajama.
Cold lunch. Night in Sajama (limited comfort). All included.
Day 3 : SAJAMA - TOMARAPI - LA PAZ
In the morning, trip to the geysers and to the hot springs before circling the Sajama volcano.
In this place, the fauna is numerous and varied (even if the group comes from Lauca): alpacas, vicuñas and ñandus. We will also see the pink flamingos on the Huayna Khota lagoon. Later on, we will take the road to the historical village of Tomarapi.
In the afternoon, return to La Paz.
